Grayson County was founded in 1894 by an attorney general of the Republic of Texas named Peter Wagener Grayson. Originally the area was created as a trading post for Spanish and French colonials along the Red River but quickly grew over time with the expansion of agriculture. The area also was home to an air force base for several decades before it’s conversion to a civilian airport.The county is also the only place in the country “where deer may be hunted with a bow no matter what the season”.
